LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — Recent heavy rains have led to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issuing an advisory for smaller crafts on the Arkansas River.
According to a release, the rain total from the last few weeks in Arkansas and Oklahoma have caused flows to rise. During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft, the release stated.
Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam near Fort Smith will be about 100,000 c.f.s. tomorrow and will increase downstream of Fort Smith along the Arkansas River exceeding 70,000 c.f.s. during the next two days, according to the release.
