FORT SMITH (KFSM) — It was a beary exciting morning in Fort Smith Friday (May 27) as people in one neighborhood pawsed to watch a bear that had climbed into a tree on Fresno Street.
The black bear was found in the tree just before 12 p.m. north of Southside High School and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission was called in to tranquilize and move it.
According to AGFC, the bear will be released in the White Rock Mountain reaction area in Franklin County.
There was another bear sighting reported in Fort Smith near Central Mall Thursday evening. A video shared on social media showed a bear running through the parking lot.
Bear sighting have also been reported in Fayetteville during the last week.
According to Fayetteville Animal Services, black bears generally eat insects and berries and are not a threat to humans. They are also easily frightened by human activity, so banging pots or pans or playing loud music scares them away.
