POTEAU, Okla. (KFSM) -- An American Airlines plane heading to Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) from Chicago was diverted to the Robert S. Kerr Airport in Poteau, Oklahoma on Sunday (June 12).

Storms moving through the Northwest Arkansas area earlier in the day prompted the pilot to make the detour, according to a passenger on the flight, who stated that passengers have been transferred to a shuttle bus which will transport them to their original destination.

American Airlines released this statement:  "American Airlines flight 3263, an ERJ-145 aircraft operated by Envoy, from Chicago O'Hare to Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) diverted to Poteau, OK Municipal Field due to weather in the area around XNA. The 50 passengers have deplaned and are being transported by bus to XNA."
