FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Pyrotechnicians gearing up for the Mayor's Fourth of July Celebration in Fort Smith spent the day working around the wet conditions.

"Each shell gets an electric match with the wire from each shell getting wired into one of the rails," explained lead pyrotechnician Norman Gray.

Gray said the fireworks show planned for Monday night (July 4) takes a lot of work and has a lot of electrical components.

"As long as we keep the water out of it during the set up, when it comes show time, it doesn't matter what's going on," he said. "We will shoot right through the rain."

The forecast for tonight's planned fireworks show seems to indicate the rain will be cleared out by then. Music at the Mayor’s Fourth of July Celebration will begin at Riverfront Park at 7 p.m., with fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m.

"Usually it's going to be the sponsor who is going to cancel because of the rain," Gray said. "They are more worried if the crowd is going to show up. The forecast I've seen, it looks nice enough that people can come on out."
