FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — The four people who lived in a home that went up in flames Tuesday morning (July 5) have been accounted for, according to Fayetteville Police Department Sgt. Craig Stout.

Crews were called to a home on Athens Lane in Fayetteville around 3 a.m., Stout said. There were four men in the house at the time, but when firefighters arrived one of the men was missing, according to Stout.

The man was found near 85th Avenue and Forest Hills Drive just after 9:30 a.m. with burn injuries and was taken to the hospital, Stout said.

The men living in the house said dozens of mortar fireworks that were in their living room went off and set the house on fire. They first tried to fight the fire with water from the shower, but when it became too overwhelming they ran outside, the men said. Their friend went missing during that time. The men also said they were intoxicated at the time the mortars went off.

The said a cat made it out of the house, but a dog died.

Stout said two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and one of them had to be taken to a hospital to be treated.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The men said they had recently moved to the area from Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada for temporary jobs.
