FORT SMITH (KFSM)— Seven local girl scout troops showed their support for area law enforcement on Tuesday (July 19).

“Over the past week, we`ve been making flowers for the firemen and sheriffs and police to give back to them,” Anna Tilley said.

Tilley and Lindsey Garretson with Troop 4372 have both been Girl Scouts for seven years. They may be getting a badge or two for their community service, but they said the most rewarding part is being able to make others feel special.

“Being able to make the smiles on everyone's faces especially like the police officer because of what's been going on lately.” Garretson said.

Expression’s Flowers delivered 180 “Be Happy Bouquets” to each employee at the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

“It means a lot,” SCSO major of operations Kevin Nickson said. “It means that there’s people still out there that care about law enforcement in lieu of what`s going on.”

It’s all part of Make Someone Smile Week. Teleflora donated the Be Happy Mugs, and Expressions Flowers, a local florist donated all the flowers.

“All together, we are going to be doing 780,” Florist Kay Schalafli said. “I would assume so far, the Girl Scouts have done close to half of those.”

“It`s been amazing,” Garretson said. “It`s been lots of fun.”

“Just to be able to receive these flowers as a law enforcement officer is great momentum to carry on,” Nickson said.

On Monday, the Girl Scouts delivered flowers to the Fort Smith Police Department. Wednesday, the flowers will be delivered to Sparks Hospitals in Fort Smith and Van Buren, and at the end of the week, they plan to stop at every fire station in the city.
