FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- The Ninth Annual Dream Big Charity Gala will be held at the Fayetteville Town Center on Saturday (July 23), to raise funds for the children's safety center in Washington County.

Child abuse is a problem in the area. In Washington County last year, more than 500 kids were taken to the children's safety center after becoming victims of abuse. Those numbers have shot up by 24 percent this year.

"We really want the community to get behind this," said Emily Rappe Fisher, the development director. "Our organization is a grassroots organization. Every single penny that's donated or raised at this event comes directly back to the children's safety center and stays right here in Washington county."

The gala will be carnival themed, and they will have a wine pool ring toss, cigar dart throw pool and live music, as well as a performance by a circus group.

The event was also carnival themed last year, and it was such a success that the gala organizers decided to make it the official yearly theme.

While gala attendees are meant to have fun, the root of the event is to help fight for children's safety.

Gala tickets are $65 and the suggested colors to wear are black, red and white. Anyone who can't attend the Dream Big Gala but would like to make a donation can do so here.
