MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. (KFSM) — A two-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon (July 23) after he had been found in the back of a car.

The boy’s father told the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office that he had been watching his four children and a niece playing in the yard of the residence. When he noticed the two-year-old not with the other kids, he left the home and began searching for the boy, a release from the sheriff’s office stated.

The father found the boy in the back floorboard of a four-door car parked in the yard, with the child unconscious. The father broke a window to the car, as the vehicle was locked, according to the release.

The boy was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin by helicopter, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Children’s Division will conduct an investigation of the death.
