A potential vaccine for Alzheimer's disease could be heading to human trials within the next five years.

Researchers from the United States and Australia have uncovered a vaccine combination, which they said has successfully targeted proteins found in the brain that play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease.

The study authors said this new process has been proved safe and effective in mouse models.

There have been no tests to prove these drugs will be effective in humans. However, the findings suggest the combination could leave great potential for a vaccine.
