FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- With heavy flooding making its way across Baton Rouge, many in Fayetteville were wondering what they could do to help out.
For those at Christian Life Cathedral, the first answer was to conduct a donation drive.
“I feel like this area is always looking out and seeing how we could help others," said Chad Harcourt, Media Pastor for the church.
While the American Red Cross said the easiest way to help out victims is to directly donate through The Red Cross, those at Christian Life Cathedral said they have a man on the ground who knows exactly what the Louisiana community needs.
"We gave him the resources to do that. He came back, gave us the report of what they needed and where they could go," Harcourt said.
The church is asking the public to help them fulfill their needs. The church is asking for donations, like peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, granola bars and apple sauce.
Also, they are requesting donations for diapers and baby wipes.
Harcourt said those donations would be loaded in a truck, and sent down to other church organizations in the region.
"80 percent of churches, after a disaster like this, close down due to the strain on them," Harcourt said. “Every single dollar that is raised goes directly to them. All of our staff is volunteer based. We are not taking anything off the top.”
The Red Cross said this response is the largest they have had since Tropical Storm Sandy in 2012. By texting “LAFloods” to 90999, you will donate $10 to disaster relief.
