VIDEO: Gold Medalist Omar McLeod Returns To Fayetteville

Jamaican Becomes 3rd Razorback To Win Gold

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)--Omar McLeod of Jamaica spoke to media members today at John McDonnell Field after returning from the Rio Olympics.  McLeod ran three clean races en route to a gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles. With a time of 13.05, the former Razorback captured Jamaica's first gold in the event.

"Words cannot describe that moment, it's like I relive it every second. It's something that I've been wanting for four years...and to go and get it done in that fashion, it was just a mind blowing experience," McLeod said.

The recent Hog improved his time in all three races, ultimately winning gold by .12 seconds over Orlando Ortega of Spain. McLeod is the third Arkansas athlete to win Olympic gold, joining Michael Conley in 1992 and fellow Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown in 2004 and 2008. The 22-year-old also won the world indoor 60 meter hurdles title in March.

McLeod is already training for a European tour over the next few weeks. The hurdler will run at three Diamond League meets in Lausaune, Switzerland (August 27), Zurich, Switzerland (September 1) and Brussels, Belgium (September 9). McLeod revealed this morning that he will run both the 100 meter dash and 110 meter hurdles in Lausaune.
