OKLAHOMA  — Oklahoma drivers will soon be sporting some new signage after state officials revealed the plans for new Oklahoma license plates on Monday (Aug. 22).

Governor Mary Fallin held a press conference, along with other state officials, to unveil the new plates around 1 p.m. on Monday.

The new plates will feature the state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, flying over some Oklahoma land features including lakes, mesas and mountains.

Additionally, the plates will have an advertisement for the state’s tourism website, TravelOK.com.

“The new design will act as a travelling billboard for those looking to experience and explore our beautiful state,” Fallin told KFOR. “Just as important, the new plates are more clearly visible at night and will aid our law enforcement officers as they work to keep us safe.”

Oklahomans will have to pay $5 for the new plates, reported KFOR. The previous plate design was more than 7 years old and were beginning to deteriorate.

The new plates will be available on Jan. 1, 2017.
