SALLISAW (KFSM) - The 2015 season proved to be a roller coaster of a year for Sallisaw as the Black Diamonds started 0-3 before winning four straight and then ended the year losing three of their final four games.
Those first three losses came by a combined 17 points and it was key moments that slipped away from Sallisaw but a switch to a 3-4 defense might help turn the tides this fall.
"Everyone has picked up on it quick," Sallisaw senior Cecil Odom said of the new defense. "I'm loving it. It's a lot faster than it was last year. We're flying to the football a lot more this year."
"We're reacting to it pretty well," Sallisaw senior Clay Glass said. "We have a lot less responsibilities now. This defense is a lot more simplified than our other defense so it's just a lot easier."
While the change has come to the defense, the Sallisaw offense will stay consistent as running back Hunter Capehart is back for his third season as a starter and ran for more than 1,000 yards in 2015.
Sallisaw kicks off the season Sept. 2 at Catoosa.
