SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — The Springdale Planning Commission voted Tuesday (Sept. 6) to recommend rezoning a piece of property for a proposed child treatment facility.

The commission voted 5-2 to recommend rezoning 33 acres near Highway 412 and Sonora Road from an agricultural property to a commercial property.

Acadia Healthcare has proposed building a treatment facility for child sex offender in the area.

The proposal has been causing controversy in the area, as residents who would live near the facility expressed concerns about the patients who would be treated there.

The planning commission’s recommendation will go to the full City Council during their Sept. 27 meeting.
