PARIS (KFSM) -- Two children are recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car Monday (Sept. 12) morning, according to Cpl. Tony Howard with the Paris Police Department

According to Howard, the children were waiting for their school bus on Carr Street. Howard said the sun was so bright that the driver couldn't see the children in time to stop.

A boy, 6, and a girl, 11, were taken to Little Rock Children's Hospital for treatment, Howard said.

The girl was pinned under the car and suffered some broken bones, but police believe the children's injuries are non life-threatening, according to Howard. Superintendent Wayne Fawcett said both children have broken bones and need surgery. The little girl suffered third degree burns as a result of being under the car.

At this time, police are still investigating and have not determined if the driver will face any charges.

This wouldn’t have happened if the kids hadn’t been playing in the street. There is no way in hell you’re going to drive onto the sidewalk/curb while making a left turn while at a stoplight/sign.
