FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- The River Valley Artisan Market kicks off Thursday (Sept. 15), but this time they're doing something a little different by inviting dogs!

The shelter at the Sebastian County Humane Society is almost out of space, so they're holding 'Dog Day at the Market' to help find homes for the pooches. The Animal Welfare Coalition will also be at the Artisan Market.

You can walk shelter dogs, adopt them or donate money to the organizations. If you adopt Thursday, Whole Pet will give the new owners dog food certificates and little goody bags.

Artisan Market vendors will also be doing something special by making customized name tags, baked treats for dogs and even unique food and water bowls.

"Seeing the community coming together for this effort has been very encouraging," said Michelle Weldon with the River Valley Artisan Market. "It's volunteer based and we are just here to open up and provide a service because we want to give back. We are so grateful for this opportunity," Weldon said.

All donations made tonight will go towards the Sebastian County Humane Society and Kitties and Canines.

"Food donations, kitty litter, cleaning supplies or even money is needed," said Weldon.

Everything kicks off Thursday at 5 p.m. at Creekmore Park and wraps up at 10 p.m.
