One Dead, Eight Injured In Hwy. 109 Arkansas River Bridge Collision

LOGAN COUNTY (KFSM) — One person was killed and eight people were injured Wednesday (Sept. 14) after a three-vehicle collision on the Highway 109 bridge over the Arkansas River between Scranton and Clarksville, according to Arkansas State Police.

A Chevrolet had stalled in the northbound lane of the bridge and as a Mercury was slowing down for the stalled vehicle, a Ford drove into the back of the Mercury, sending it into the southbound lane where it struck the bridge railing. The Ford then hit the Chevrolet. Crews at the scene said two of the three vehicles caught on fire and burned.

Robin Freeman, 46, of Clarksville, who was the driver of the Ford, was killed, according to a report from ASP. Charcina Stepp, 26, Shannon Koch, 19, and two juveniles, who were Freeman’s passengers, were injured.

Also injured in the collision were Amber Williams, 31, of Clarksville who was driving the Mercury. Ivonnr Espinoza, 38, Clarksville, who was driving the Chevrolet, and her passengers, Gorgina Olguin, 47, of Clarksville and Rita Olguin, 44, of Clarksville, were injured as well.

The injured individuals were transported to Johnson Regional Medical Center.

The bridge was shut down for about an hour as crews cleared the scene.
