Mavericks Led By Senior Group On Volleyball Court

Mavericks chasing another conference title

FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The Southside volleyball team has been pretty much unstoppable in 7A-Central play, starting out the season 6-1. Most of their success can be attributed to their three leaders on the team.

"Our seniors played very well, they have been." said head coach Steve Haaser. "Madison Teal was big, Jenny Tipton had some big plays, and Mikayla Dietz is a outstanding hitter on the outside. I think it's because of them we were able to pull out the win."

If you look at who tops the stats in each victory Teal, Dietz, and Tiptons names are always up high on the list. They credit their chemistry on the court to having played together since a young age.

"Well we've been playing FSJ together since we were like 12," said Dietz. "So we really have that chemistry together and we bond and we can work well with each other."

That's not the only way they help the Mavericks, they are also leaders for the younger girls who are still adjusting to varsity play.

"In game situations we just have to play hard and keep calm," said Tipton. "When the sophomores that haven't played high school , they haven't been in this environment so they get all jittery so we just have to stay calm."

"We always try to be positive," said Teal. That's the main thing and if they make a mistake just tell them to like forget about it it's done with that's the biggest thing."

The Mavericks have two big challenges ahead of them with back to back road conference games this week. Their goal is to remain at the top of conference standings.
