BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana State University’s live mascot passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 11).

Mike VI, who was adopted by the university in 2007, was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma in May 2016, according to an LSU release. The tiger underwent stereotactic radiotherapy in June, but was later admitted into hospice care on Monday (Oct. 10).

The 11-year-old tiger was humanely euthanized, the release states.

LSU is encouraging fans to share photos and memories of Mike VI using #MikeVI.

The university will begin the search for another live tiger mascot and will attempt to get it from a rescue facility, the release states.
