LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — The Arkansas Department of Health reported nearly 500 confirmed and suspected cases of the mumps, as of Tuesday (Oct. 11).

The number of new mumps cases has been slowing, but recently started rising again, according to a health department press release. There are currently 492 mumps cases throughout Springdale, Bentonville, Rogers and Huntsville.

The ADH will be offering a free vaccination clinic for Mumps, Measles and Rubella on Thursday (Oct. 13) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Jones Center in Springdale. They will also be offering the flu vaccination.

The MMR vaccine will be to patients at no cost, but they encourage those with insurance to bring their cards.

The outbreak was first reported Aug. 31 and the health department expects cases to keep multiplying over the next several months.

The department is asking everyone in the areas where mumps cases have been confirmed to double check that they and their family members are up to date on their vaccinations.
