FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Attention landscapers — the city of Fayetteville will be giving away mulch and trees to residents this month.
The city will be giving away free trees and shrubs on Saturday, Oct. 22 starting at 7 a.m. The giveaway is part of a Celebration of Trees collaboration between Mayor Lioneld Jordan, the city’s parks and recreation department and the city’s urban forestry advisory board.
The plants will be given away at the Arvest Bank Plaza at the northwest corner of East Avenue and Center Street along the downtown historic square.
The plants will be given away from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. or until supplies run out, and there is a limit of two plants per adult Fayetteville resident.
Anyone interested in getting a tree must show proof of Fayetteville residency, such as a utility bill or a piece of mail, and they must be planning to maintain the plants so they grow.

Due to an excess supply of mulch, the city will be giving away free mulch through the end of October or while supplies last.
The mulch is available during normal operation hours at the city’s compost facility, located at 1708 S. Armstrong Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The mulch is free to anyone, but people must provide their own means of hauling the mulch. People can bulk load using a truck bed or trailer or provide a container or bag.
Normally mulch is normally available for $10 a scoop, which is about 2.5 cubic yards.
