VIAN (KFSM) — A Vian man died after he was stabbed in the stomach by his wife on Tuesday (Oct. 11), said the Vian Police Chief on Friday (Oct. 14).

Chief Ted Johnson said officers responded to a home on Benton Line Road shortly before midnight on Tuesday, when they found Billy Mar, 48, with a single stab wound in the abdomen.

Johnson said Mar was up and talking with paramedics on the way to a Fort Smith hospital. Mar told officers that he had been stabbed by his wife, Michelle Scoggins, 45, with a fillet knife while she was cooking.

He died from his injuries Wednesday morning in the hospital.

Johnson said Scoggins was taken into custody and brought to the Sequoyah County Jail. He said no bond has been set and her charges are still pending.

Scoggins’ first court appearance will be Wednesday (Oct. 19) at 1:30 p.m.
