ARKANSAS (KFSM) -- Property taxes are due Monday (Oct. 17). The deadline is usually on October 15th, but since that day fell on a weekend, it was extended.

While many people are headed to the county offices to pay their taxes, there is more than one way to pay.

To pay your taxes online click here. Some counties also offer 24-hour drop boxes. Washington County and Sebastian County are also letting people pay over the phone, but there is a fee. You can also go to the DMV and pay your taxes during regular business hours. Mailing your payment in is still an option as long as it's postmarked by Monday (Oct.17).

We asked the Washington County Tax Collector what happens if you don't pay on time and David Ruff said there's a ten percent penalty. "Ten percent is automatically levied to your taxes and that's not good," said Ruff. "No one wants to pay taxes and we don't want to add another ten percent to it, but we do have a lot of people who do let it go delinquent."

Ruff said you can also set up monthly payments for the 2017 year. Instead of paying one big sum, you would be paying smaller monthly installments.

For more information or to set those monthly payments up for next year, contact your county tax collector office.
