RIVER VALLEY (KFSM) -- When first responders and law enforcement are on scene of accidents or house fires, it can be hard to keep the victims warm during the winter.

That's why two nonprofit organizations are making sure police and fire departments in the River Valley have blankets to keep in their vehicles.

Students Against Drugs and Alcohol and the Voodoo Misfitz's have given more than 1,000 blankets to several police, fire and sheriff's departments throughout the River Valley. The non-profits are also making sure the rural departments are taken care of.

"People who work in those fields like fire and EMS, their work is to help others," said Stacy Eckert, President of Students Against Drugs and Alcohol, in Van Buren. "This is just another tool that helps them do their job effectively."

The groups have been doing fundraisers throughout the year to raise enough money for the blankets and not only are they giving blankets to local police and fire, they're also reach out to local homeless shelters.
