17-Year-Old Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Benton

BENTON (KTHV) — A teen who was killed in an officer-involved shooting has been identified.

According to the Benton Police Department, the 17-year-old teen was reported to be in possession of a handgun when officers responded to a family disturbance on the 1200 block of River Oaks late Monday morning.

Harmony Grove School District identified the teen as Keagan Schweikle. He was a student and baseball player for the district.

Police say the boy fled into a nearby wooded area and refused commands by the officer to put down the weapon. Police said the officer shot the teenager after he pointed the weapon at the officer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
