CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) -- Families in Crawford County said that headstone decorations have been stolen from several cemeteries across the county.
Erlene Shaddy lost her oldest song Michael to cancer and she visits his grave often at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren. She spent more than $100 to make a Halloween arrangement for his headstone, which has now been stolen.
"I hadn't planned on doing this, but I guess somebody needed those flowers more than I did," Shaddy said.
Michael's brother Stuart Keller realized after posting on Facebook that they weren't the only ones in this situation.
"I posted on Facebook and I got a ton of responses to it," Keller said. "Several people at this cemetery and at different cemeteries that have had their sprays either, well they just disappeared."
Keller said that from talking to other victims they have found a trend with where the items are turning up.
"I've heard sometimes they go to flea markets, garage sales, sometime they end up at other cemeteries," Keller said. "That's what we are going to do today is drive around to other cemeteries."
Shaddy and Keller said that they have a message for the person who took the arrangement.
"Give it back. That's all we want," Keller said. "We don't want to press charges or anything, we would just like to have it back."
Groundskeepers at the cemetery said they were thinking about adding surveillance cameras to catch any future thefts on video.
