POTEAU, Okla. (KFSM) -- It`s a rematch of 2012; Billy Shropshire is once again running as a Republican against Democrat incumbent Rob Seale for LeFlore County Sheriff.

"We're working on building a better drug enforcement program than we've got now," Seale said. "I have a full-time investigator now that's investigating crimes, which we didn't have before. We're going to keep going with the things we're doing now."

Shropshire said he has about 28 years of combined law enforcement experience and has a lot he wants to change at the sheriff's office.

"I know that we can run that sheriff`s department off of less money," Shropshire said. "Get it more efficient. Have the county itself covered. It takes an hour and a half to two hours right now to respond to some of the calls that are roughly 45 miles from here."

Seale does not see it that way.

"You're not going to be able to run this office on a smaller budget than it has now. I need twice as many deputies as I have now. We're the third largest county in the state of Oklahoma," he said.

Shropshire thinks it's possible.

"One of the things I want do is I want a deputy to live in each one of the communities," he said, "I want a deputy that actually lives in that particular area and actually patrols that area there."

Seale said the recommendation is to have one deputy per 1,000 people, but right now he is operating with one deputy per 10,000.
