SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — Northwest Arkansas Community College announced on Monday (Oct. 31) they would be receiving a $2 million gift from the Walton Family Foundation that would go toward building an education and workforce training facility.

The new 50,000 square foot training center will be built in Springdale, with an expected opening date of late 2017, according to a press release.

The facility will train an estimated 2,000-plus students in the fields of construction technology, apprenticeship trades and mechatronics, along with other specialty programs, the release states.

The Walton donation, which is part of a capital campaign fund called the NWA Ripple Effect, has raised the total funding for the project up to $3.6 million, the release states. The capital campaign was launched earlier this year with the goal of raising $15 million.
