BENTONVILLE (KFSM) — The Bentonville School Board of Education unanimously approved asking voters for a millage increase in 2017 during a meeting Monday (Nov. 14).

The board will be seeking an additional 1.9 mills to build four new schools in the coming years. The millage would add approximately $38 a year for each $100,000 of home value to property tax bills.

In addition to the millage, the district also plans to refinance its current debt. The funding will go toward two new elementary schools, one middle school and a junior high school before the 2022-2023 school year.

Osage Creek Elementary and Creekside Middle School are currently under construction with opening dates set for August 2017. Voters were not asked to approve additional millage to construct the schools.

The last millage passed by Bentonville voters was a 2.9 mill increase to build Bentonville West High School.

The 1.9 millage increase will be taken to voters in May 2017 for approval. If its approved, it would increase Bentonville’s millage rate to 48.5 mills.
