SCOTT COUNTY (KFSM) — One man was pronounced dead after a house fire in Scott County on Tuesday (Nov. 15), according to a press release.

Around 4 p.m., Scott County Dispatch received a call from 6384 Ross Creek Road in Waldron. The caller, identified as 54-year-old Benjamin Trager, stated that his residence was on fire and that he was still inside.

The Waldron Rural Fire Department and Scott County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene. The first responding unit arrived on scene at 4:11 p.m. and discovered the residence fully engulfed.

Despite that, Deputy Sheriff’s and Waldron Rural Firefighters attempted to get into the house through a back door. However, they were unsuccessful, the press release states. It was later discovered that a bathtub was sitting against the door.

The firefighters were able to eventually gain access through a back wall and recover the body of Mr. Trager. The Scott County Coroner was then dispatched to the scene.  At this time, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Many additional agencies responded to the fire including Waldron Police Department, Waldron City Fire Department, Arkansas Forestry Commission Firefighters, US Forest Service Firefighters and Southwest EMS.
