FORT SMITH (KFSM) — Fort Smith Police are searching for a thief, or thieves, who stole more than 50 bronze vases from a Fort Smith cemetery earlier this week.

Police said that somebody forcibly removed and then stole more than 50 of the bronze vases that were attached to headstones at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery on State Line Road on Monday (Nov. 14) and Tuesday (Nov. 15), according to a department press release. The thefts happened during the early morning hours on both days, and all occurred within a 24-hour period.

Police said they were later alerted to two people, a man and a woman, who tried to sell bronze vases to a recycling business in Russellville.

Officers are trying to identify the man, pictured here, whom they describe as a white male between the ages of 30-40.

Anyone with information about the man or the theft is encouraged to call the Fort Smith Police Department at 479-709-5100 or dial 78-CRIME.
