BARLING (KFSM) -- Barling Police Officer Jerry Foley is still recovering after two suspects attacked him and left him unconscious.

"I'm doing well. A little bit of a headache and some sore ribs, but other than that I am doing real well," Foley said.

The officer said he has one more doctor appointment before he plans to return to work next week.

Foley was attacked early Wednesday (Nov. 16) morning while patrolling an area of new homes under construction. There had been recent reports of thefts in the area.

He pulled into the subdivision on Spring Hill Road in Barling just after 1 a.m.

"I just happen to see two people standing out beside one of the duplexes," he said. "I remember checking out with dispatch telling them I was going to be out with two subjects there and that's about the last thing I remember."

Police believe one of the suspects hit the officer in the head, knocking him unconscious. They believe the suspects stole the officers vest camera and left in a vehicle.

While no official arrests have been made in the case yet, they do have two people in custody that they are questioning in connection with the case.

Foley said he is overwhelmed by the amount of people reaching out to him to check in on how he's doing.

"It's really nice. We love what we do and when you have the support of the people it makes you love it even more," Foley said.
