Greenwood’s Wood Enjoying Breakout Season

Greenwood has remained undefeated (11-0) heading into the Class 6A semifinals.

GREENWOOD (KFSM)- Held back from an ankle injury his sophomore year Bulldogs' running back Kenny Wood returned healthy this season and has been a key factor to Greenwood's offensive success.

"Last season wasn't my best year," said Wood. "I did have an ankle injury, but I got back from that and I have been having a great year it feels real good."
After having just 222-yards on the ground with five scores in 2015, Wood is now the Bulldogs' leading rusher with 971-yards and 16-touchdowns and has reached over 400-receiving yards this fall.

"Well I think determination is a good word to use when you talk about him," said Greenwood coach Rick Jones. "He's not the biggest, not the fastest, but he has heart. He has what we call Bulldog heart. He's given great effort and has tried to get every single inch out of every run and that's what we ask for in  our tailbacks."

Wood has also been able to make connections with both of Greenwood's starting quarterbacks.

"He's a really scrappy young kid," said senior quarterback Luke Hales. "He's tough and he loves to play football. I'm pretty sure he could play defense if he wanted to, but he loves to have the ball in his hands."

Greenwood is just one win away from making it to the championship round once again.  Like all season, Wood is determined to help the Bulldog's achieve their goal of getting the class 6-A Crown.

Greenwood will face Pine Bluff at Home in the 6A semifinals Friday at 7:00 p.m.
