SALLISAW (KFSM) -- The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety announced it will change certain operations within the Oklahoma Highway Patrol because of a budget shortfall.

Starting Dec. 1 state troopers will have a 100 mile restriction, the OHP's aircraft flying hours will be reduced, the hiring freeze will continue and some dispatch operations between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. will be altered.

OHP currently has a little more than 800 troopers statewide. Those troopers patrol more than 100,000 miles of roads.

Budget cuts across the state have forced many state agencies to make cuts while state revenues continue to fall short.

The budget cutbacks will also effect filling certain positions including driver licenses examiners and upgrades to OHP radio communication systems.
