VAN BUREN (KFSM) — A man is behind bars and another is in critical condition at an area hospital following a stabbing in Van Buren early Tuesday (June 13).
According to Detective Jonathan Wear, Van Buren Police received a call about a man in the Sparks ER who had been stabbed. The victim was a 48-year-old Van Buren man with lacerations on his neck, face, arm and chest.
The suspect was identified as David Ferguson, also of Van Buren.
Police said the stabbing happened at 1 a.m. in the 3500 block of Flat Rock Court after the two men got into a fight. During the incident, Ferguson struck the victim in the face, head and neck with a golf club. The head of the golf club broke off, and investigators believe the broken shaft of the golf club was then used to slash the victim, causing severe injuries.
According to Detective Wear, the victim is in Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith in serious condition.
Ferguson was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center on first-degree battery charges, Wear stated.
