MULBERRY (KFSM ) -- One person was killed Tuesday (Dec. 19) in an officer-involved shooting in Mulberry, according to Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown.

A Mulberry officer followed up on a theft complaint at the Sunoco Gas Station on Highway 64. The officer went to the home of the person of interest at the 100 block of Reynolds Street.

Brown said when the officer made contact with the person of interest, that person pulled a weapon and didn't comply with the officer's orders.

The officer then shot the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Brown. The officer radioed in at 11:30 a.m. to say he was involved in a shooting.

The family of the victim has been notified and the body will be sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab. The name of the victim or the officer will not be released until the investigation is over.

Brown said the officer will be placed on administrative duties until further notice.
