MULDROW (KFSM)— Muldrow police officer Chad Walters said he attempted to pull over the driver of a green Chevrolet truck suspected of being stolen out of Fort Smith Thursday (Feb. 8).

Instead of pulling over, the driver led the officer on a high-speed chase traveling west on Interstate 40.

“At first he wasn’t going very fast, but at one point we got from the rest area we were going about 90 to 95,” Walters said.

The driver exited the interstate and headed into the downtown area of Sallisaw, still traveling at a high rate of speed.

”Once we got to the downtown portion, the vehicle crashed into a light pole,” Walters said.

Sallisaw police and Sequoyah County deputies pulled up as back up while Walters pulled the uninjured driver from the truck.

“I asked him why he did it and from what I understood he said he was scared,” Walters said.

The driver was a 16-year-old male who police said was charged with fleeing from police.

There was also an 18-year-old female passenger in the truck who was not charged with a crime. She was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said.
