FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- A 26-year-old man died Tuesday (June 5) after a scooter accident in Fayetteville, according to Sgt. Anthony Murphy with Fayetteville police.

Police said Michael Turner was driving northbound on School Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. when he hit a curb just south of 9th Street.

He left the roadway and hit a sign, police said. He then fell along with the woman riding on the back of his scooter into Tanglewood Branch Creek and hit a concrete retaining wall.

Murphy said when police arrived on scene they pulled the two out of the water and began administering first aid until paramedics arrived.

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was taken to the hospital with signigicant, but not life-threatening injuries.

“In situations like this it is hard for everyone especially the people involved in the accident and their families and also the officers and first responders who responded to the scene,” Murphy said.
