ROGERS (KFSM) — Four people are in custody after a four-hour standoff in Rogers Wednesday (Aug. 8) morning.
According to Keith Foster, spokesman for the Rogers Police Department, officers arrived at the home at 510 North 3rd Street Tuesday (Aug. 7) to serve an arrest warrant after a resident called saying he witnessed several people attempting to break into his neighbor's vehicle.
The suspects fled the scene in a pickup and a passenger from the suspects vehicle fired a handgun out of the window as the witness followed them, according to Foster.
An officer with the Rogers police Department located the suspected vehicle as heading northbound on Old Wire Road, where it had crashed into a sreet sign at Monte Ne Road and Mimosa Place. The suspects then fled on foot.
Police later arrested Eberth Mario Gonzalez, 20, and Paul Michael Warder, 19, of Springdale and Xavier Deshawn Turner, 19, of Beebe in connection with the shooting, Foster said.
Gonzalez and Turner face felony charges of committing a terroristic act, discharging a firearm from a car, engaging criminal gang activity, fleeing and breaking or entering. Warder was booked for terroristic treating and breaking or entering.
One juvenile was also arrested, Foster said.
The investigation led detectives to the home on 3rd Street where officers believed the suspects were hiding.
Foster said the people inside initially refused to come out and the SWAT team was eventually called out.
Some people came out after police arrived, but one man refused. Police shut off parts of Persimmon and Third streets as they began negotiating with him.
Police could be heard over a megaphone asking the man to put down their gun and exit the home, so it's possible the man was armed.
Foster said the hostage negotiation team had tossed a phone inside the home to try to make contact with the man and talk him into coming outside.
"We want to make sure that we give them every opportunity to come out on their own before we have to get to that final point and going in to get them," Foster said.
No one was hurt during the standoff. Police haven't released the names of the people in custody.
Several neighbors told 5NEWS there had been a spate of unusual activity and a heavy police presence at the home.
Warder, Gonzalez and Turner were being held Friday (Aug. 10) at the Benton County Jail on bonds of $88,500, $100,000 and $25,000, respectively.
The trio has hearings set for Sept. 17 in Benton County Circuit Court.
