Man Who Escaped From Arkansas State Hospital Captured

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — A man who escaped the Arkansas State Hospital on Saturday (Aug. 11) has been captured, according to officials.

The Arkansas State Hospital Police Department says 34-year-old James Barrett escaped from the psychiatric inpatient facility sometime Saturday evening.

Barrett was at the hospital for evaluation and treatment as he awaits trial on a rape charge in Faulkner County. He was supposed to be in court Monday (Aug. 13) morning for those charges.

Court records indicate he was ordered confined to the hospital in October and an order to keep him there pending trial was entered in January.

An official with the Marshal Service said Barrett was found at a Motel 6 in downtown Memphis, according to our CBS affiliate THV11 Little Rock.

Officials say Barrett was found in an vehicle with an unknown woman around 2:15 p.m.

It wasn't immediately clear how Barrett got away from the hospital.
