PEA RIDGE (KFSM) — A Pea Ridge man who struck a teacher and several children with his car outside a daycare in July won’t face criminal charges, according to police.

The toxicology report for Jimmy Lothes found no controlled substances in his system that would’ve impaired his ability to safely operate a vehicle, said Sgt. Mike Lisenbee, spokesman for Pea Ridge police.

Lisenbee said Lothes, 66, was cited Wednesday (Aug. 22) for careless driving and driving left of center. His toxicology report came back negative for cabbabinoids, cocaine, methamphetamine and opiates.

On July 11, Lothes was driving a Dodge Dakota on Hallek Lane when he struck a teacher pushing four children in a multi-seat stroller outside Northwest Arkansas Head Start, according to police.

Lothes told police he fell asleep while driving.

Another teacher pushing four other kids was also in the road when the accident happened. She said the other teacher tried to push the stroller out of the way of Lothes’ vehicle before it hit them.

The four boys and four girls in the strollers were between 1 and 2 years old.

Police said three children suffered some cuts and bruises, but only two children and one of the teachers were taken to a hospital.

The daycare declined to comment.
