SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl who died Tuesday (Sept. 4).
Springdale police were called to assist firefighters at about 8:44 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chapel Ridge Apartments, where the girl, who was two weeks shy of her second birthday, was found unresponsive.
The child was taken to the Northwest Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her body has been sent to the state Crime Lab in Little Rock.
A family friend identified the toddler as Sofia Fuls to 5NEWS.
Springdale Police said an investigation is ongoing and have not said if the toddler’s death is suspicious or if foul play is suspected. The cause of the death has not yet been determined.
Family members have concerns about how the investigation is being handled.
The investigation was handed over to the Benton County Prosecutors Office on Tuesday (Sep. 18).
"As soon as the prosecutor lets us know what they would like us to do, as far as whether there's going to be charges or not, we will do everything we can to make that arrest and seek justice", Lt. Jeff Taylor with the Springdale Police Department told 5NEWS.
