BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Transportation has approved a $2.7 million grant to rehabilitate a taxiway at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.
The funds will be used to reconstruct 1,300 feet of taxiway pavement which has reached the end of its life. Airport officials say the improvement will result in more efficient transit times and savings on fuel costs.
The airport serves a region that is home to three Fortune 500 companies and continues to grow. Last year, the airport served more than 1.4 million passengers. Arkansas’ busiest airport, Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, served a little more than 2 million passengers last year.
Officials say the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport needs updated taxiways to ensure accessibility for travelers in addition to positioning the region for continued growth.
