FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A man was taken into custody Thursday morning after he wielded a pocket knife and caused a scene at the entrance to the emergency room at a Fayetteville hospital.

Police was called out to a report of a man causing a scene at the entrance to Washington Regional Medical Center emergency room shortly before 8 a.m. According to Sgt. Anthony Murphy with the Fayetteville Police Department, the man was "impaired," but it wasn't known why the man was in the emergency room in the first place.

The man walked outside with the pocket knife in hand. Police responded to the scene, and the man was taken into custody at 7:57 a.m. without incident, Murphy said.

"There was mention that he had a weapon or something like that, but I believe it was a pocket knife, and he never threatened anybody with it or anything like that," Murphy said.

The man's name was not immediately released.
