JOHNSON COUNTY (KFSM) -- A Johnson County volunteer firefighter has resigned from his position after his sexual assault conviction surfaced in the community.
Archie Dorsett stepped down on Tuesday (Oct. 24), Johnson County Judge Herman Houston told 5NEWS.
Dorsett resigned after people in the Johnson County community raised questions about him being registered as a Level 2 sex offender on the Arkansas sex offender registry.
The Emergency Manager of Johnson County, Josh Johnson, said Dorsett told him he would resign in hopes of not causing the county any further turmoil.
Dorsett was sentenced to 36-months in jail in 2015 when he was charged with 4th-degree sexual assault. He served a total of 108 days after being accused of having sex with a 14 year old. Dorsett was 26 at the time.
Johnson County officials said there is currently no policy against hiring a firefighter who is a registered sex offender. However, they did say they will be looking into changing that policy.
