ALMA (KFSM) — An accident involving a semi had both westbound lanes blocked on Interstate 40 at the Interstate 49 interchange in Alma early Wednesday morning.
According to the Arkansas State Police, a tractor-trailer was involved in an accident that blocked the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 at the interchange with Interstate 49.
Both lanes wereblocked at mile marker 12.4 when the semi landed on its side and spilled its contents, state police said. The accident happened about 5:21 a.m.
Traffic also slowed on Interstate 49 southbound as a result of the closed westbound I-40 lanes. Traffic began to move slowly about 7:45 a.m. as state police opened the inside westbound lane. The accident was finally cleared and the lanes reopened at 9:23 a.m., four hours and 2 minutes after the lanes closed, according to state police.
No injuries were reported in the accident. Drivers were encouraged to divert to Old Highway 64 to avoid the accident, but many still ended up trapped on the interstate for hours.
