VAN BUREN (KFSM) — A student was hit outside the Van Buren High School on Wednesday morning, and a suspect was arrested.
Sgt. Jonathan Wear with the Van Buren Police Department said the student was hit in a crosswalk in front of the high school. Cars were stopped for the student, but the suspect turned out of a drive, went around stopped traffic and struck the student, according to Van Buren Police Sargent Jonathan Wear.
The student was treated for minor injuries and released, Wear said. An EMS was called to the scene, and the student was released back to his family.
The suspect was arrested on charges of driving on a suspended license and was also charged with careless and prohibited driving.
Ware emphasized to 5NEWS that pedestrians always have the right of way in an unregulated intersection (meaning an intersection not governed by a traffic light.)
