FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)-- One person was sent to the hospital late Monday (Dec. 31) night after a shooting at a New Year's Eve party.

It happened just before 11 p.m. at 1101 S. Curtis Ave. off of Huntsville Road in South Fayetteville.

Police say there was a fight between two groups of people and that's when the shooting occurred.

The victim was shot in the torso multiple times and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was released early this morning.

According to a post on the Fayetteville Police Department's Facebook page, the suspects left the scene before police arrived.

Police said in the post, the shooting was not random and the public should not be in any danger.

"I would say if anyone feels like they know who the suspect is to not approach them," said Fayetteville Police Sergeant Anthony Murphy. "Let law enforcement know and let us deal with it, but I would say the general public is not in any danger."

The investigation is ongoing and police are talking to people who were at the party to get a better idea on the possible suspects.
