SPRINGDALE (KFSM) —The body of a woman was found Sunday (Jan. 20) morning lying in the road with a gunshot wound to the torso.

Springdale police were called to Don Tyson Parkway and George Anderson Road around 4:50 a.m., according to a Springdale Police Department statement.

Springdale Lieutenant Jeff Taylor said so far no witnesses to what happened have come forward.

He said this is obviously concerning because this body was found on a busy road and they don’t know the circumstances surrounding what happened.

“We don’t even know where this took place to be exact, we just know where the body was found. So, we are still looking and trying to track down anything that we can that would lead us to some insight into what might have taken place,” Taylor said.

Jessica and Kenneth White III who live in the nearby neighborhood said they were awake around two Sunday morning and that they heard a loud pop.

"We caught it on out security camera at 2:12 a.m.," said Jessica White. "It was that loud that our home security camera caught it."

The couple was having a conversation but were interrupted abruptly by the loud sound they said came from the direction of their kitchen window. Jessica White said police later confirmed to her that the shooting happened less than 400 feet from her home.

It is still unknown at this time as to if the sound the Whites heard is directly related to the incident, but Jessica White said she never thought she would have ever heard a gunshot in her neighborhood so when it happened reporting it didn't cross her mind.

"The emotions I'm feeling.. just complete sadness for her and her family," White said. "I am just ya know wishing that I would have identified the sound more and reported it."

Her husband Kenneth White III said they moved to the neighborhood because of its safety, so they were both shocked to learn what happened.

"Very surprised that a shooting happened in that part of town," White said. "I've heard about shootings in certain other areas, and other towns around Northwest Arkansas.. not surprised shootings happened in those areas, but this one I was."

When officers arrived, they found the body of a deceased Hispanic woman between the ages of 25-35 years old, according to the news release.

The body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation is ongoing, and the woman's identity is unknown at this time, the news release states.

If anyone has any information regarding the woman, you are asked to call Springdale police at (479) 751-4542 or the anonymous tip line at (479) 750-4484.
