CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) — Crawford County Sheriff's deputies were on the scene of what's now being called a homicide investigation after a body was found shot and dumped in a rural cemetery.
Sheriff Ron Brown has identified the victim as Gabriel Ricardo Quispe, 49, of Fort Smith.
Investigators told 5NEWS people visiting a grave site found the body laying out in the open and called 911. Deputies were called to the scene around 11 a.m.
Ron Brown, Crawford County Sheriff, confirmed that a body was found in the Dripping Springs Cemetery off Highway 26 in the Uniontown area about midway between Cedarville and Van Buren.
"It appears to have, what we believe at this time is a gunshot wound, and we're working it as a homicide," Brown said.
Investigators believe the man's body had only been at the cemetery for a few hours.
His body has been sent to the state crime lab in hopes to find more details about his death.
Investigators are out following up on a lead in the case. They say they received a tip that could lead them to more information about the man's death.
